Cryptocurrency — Opportunity or Hype?

Crypto has created millionaires and also wiped out life savings. Here is a balanced view.

The Case FOR Crypto (5-10% of Portfolio)

Decentralized finance is a genuine innovation. Bitcoin has outperformed every asset class over 10 years. Major institutions now hold crypto. Blockchain technology has real applications.

The Case AGAINST Crypto (as Main Investment)

Extreme volatility (50-80% drops are normal). No underlying cash flows like stocks. Regulatory uncertainty. Scams are rampant. History of exchange failures.

If You Decide to Invest

Never invest more than 5-10% of portfolio. Only invest money you can afford to lose completely. Stick to established cryptocurrencies. Use reputable exchanges. Never borrow to invest in crypto. Do NOT follow social media hype.

Priority Order for Your Money

1. Emergency fund → 2. High-interest debt payoff → 3. Retirement accounts → 4. Index funds → 5. Then consider crypto with remaining funds.
